Policy Console error "Packet for query is too large" when you upload a large app

When you upload a large app to the Policy Console, you may see this error:

Packet for query is too large (...).  You can change this value on the server by setting the max_allowed_packet variable.

If you are using a console hosted by Blue Cedar, contact Support and ask them to increase this value for you.

For an on-premises console, you can fix this by increasing the value of  "max_allowed_packet" in the MySQL configuration on the console virtual machine.

  • Connect to your policy console virtual machine using ssh or putty.
  • Edit the mysql configuration file my.cnf.

    $ sudo vim /etc/mysql/my.cnf

  • Find the section labeled [mysqld], and change max_allowed_packet:

    max_allowed_packet = 1G

  • Save changes and exit vim.

  • Restart MySQL.

    $ sudo service mysql restart
